Despite a movie remake happening, the Child’s Play TV series is moving forward with Chucky voice Brad Dourif in tow, and not attached to the film. Given the patently ridiculous premise of the entire Child’s Play franchise - human serial killer uses voodoo to transfer his soul into the body of a doll, which then somehow manages to kill dozens of people despite being tiny - it’s a wonder that its continuity is actually pretty straightforward....

The last decade alone has given us some pretty great movies about young women coming of age in their teenage years. Some have come in the forms of indie visions like Pariah and Lady Bird, while others have descended from the John Hughes tradition of high school comedy (Easy A, The Edge of Seventeen) or even told their stories though the lens of genre, resulting in such unique entries as Winter’s Bone and Hanna....

The show’s time travel shenanigans will allow for something of a fresh start for Dahrk. Damien Darhk was part of Legends of Tomorrow’s iteration of the supervillain group the Legion of Doom in season 2 alongside Eobard Thawne and Malcolm Meryln. Plucked from the timeline by Eobard Thawne before his death in the Arrow season 4 finale, Darhk faced off against the Legends in its vastly improved second season....

Kevin Mayer, head of Walt Disney’s upcoming streaming service Disney+ confirms that Marvel’s Netflix Original TV shows may come to Disney after all. The wave of cancellations started with Iron Fist, followed by Luke Cage a week later, and finally Daredevil, shortly after its third season premiered. The Punisher season 2 is set to premiere next month and season 3 of Jessica Jones is in post-production. However, it’s unclear if either show will be renewed any further....

Disney’s feud with the Los Angeles Times continues, as the Mouse House has now been banned from various film awards. This public falling-out began when the LA Times published an article that painted Disney in a bad light, suggesting that Disney’s Parks & Resorts aren’t paying a fair share to the city of Anaheim. For example, the Times criticised Disney for charging customers $20-per-car to park in a city-owned garage, which Disney itself only pays $1-a-year to lease....

Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake is set to pass the $900 million mark at the worldwide box office. This summer has been particularly unkind to major studio tentpoles, with the likes of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Dark Phoenix, and Men in Black: International posting all-time worst opening weekends for their respective franchises. More recently, the marketplace rebounded nicely with the one-two punch of Toy Story 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home, but overall it’s been a pretty disappointing stretch at the movies....

The monsters in Bird Box are currently the film’s biggest mystery, and not showing them off to viewers is generally considered the movie’s biggest “mistake” - but, in reality, keeping the monsters hidden is why it’s actually great. The final trailer for Deadpool 2 is out and it’s an absolute laugh-riot, with jokes riffing on both X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Logan. The Merc With A Mouth has never taken himself particularly seriously, and in this trailer he throws shade at the entire superhero genre. Deadpool cracks wise about the MCU and the DCEU, even name-dropping Thanos. But Fox aren’t above laughing at themselves, either; the trailer features shout-outs to both X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Logan....

In the run up to Netflix’s The Defenders, the big team-up crossover of Marvel and Netflix’s various solo series, one of the biggest mysteries was the role and true identity of Sigourney Weaver’s character Alexandra Reid. Ever since Weaver was revealed at San-Diego Comic Con 2016 to be playing the main antagonist to New York’s finest, speculation among fans was rampant as to who she is. Co-showrunner Marco Ramirez went on record at the time stating she was an original character, fueling discussion further - was Alexandra truly original, or would she secretly turn out to be a villain from the comics?...
