Detroit makes for a disturbing and unnerving portrayal of real historical events, but has less success as a work of sociopolitical commentary. Following an early morning police raid on an unlicensed weekend drinking club located on 12th Street in Detroit, Michigan, on July 23rd, 1967, the public disorder in response to the raid gives rise to violent and destructive riots over the five days thereafter. The city of Detroit is placed under a curfew during that period of time, as Michigan’s National Guard begins patrolling its streets and locals spend their time either decrying the actions of the police and government or trying to keep their heads down, while carrying on with their own day-to-day-lives....

Season 3 of Netflix’s royal family drama, The Crown, will bring a former exorcist into the mix with the casting of Ben Daniels as the new Lord Snowden. The role of Tony Armstrong-Jones was played by Matthew Goode in season 2 of the series. A new report has shed light on what went wrong behind the scenes on Dark Phoenix. Fox’s run on the X-Men movies started in 2000, but came to a disappointing conclusion this past weekend. Dark Phoenix was hampered by reports of poor test screenings ahead of its release, and the actual reviews were pretty negative all-around. This did virtually nothing to help the general lack of interest surrounding the X-Men film pre-launch, which resulted in Dark Phoenix bombing with a franchise-low $33 million bow at the domestic box office....

The first trailer for Disney’s Artemis Fowl is now available, giving fans their first look at the long-awaited adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s children series. In it, audiences are shown just a taste of how the film mixes magical fantasy with high-tech gadgetry, promising a movie that will blur the lines between fantasy adventure and sci-fi thriller. The film, like the books, tells the story of the 12-year old genius, Artemis Fowl (Ferdia Shaw), descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, and the hidden race of faeries with whom he must do battle if he hopes to discover any information about his father’s mysterious disappearance....

Walt Disney Studios has seen success in recent years with live-action adaptations of their animated classics. Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella stayed true to the story of the 1950 animated feature, and earned a sizable box office haul with a $543 million worldwide gross. Last year’s The Jungle Book, directed by Jon Favreau, helped Disney break box office records in 2016 with its worldwide total of $966 million. Plus, both Cinderella and The Jungle Book earned positive reviews from critics and casual moviegoers alike as well....

Stephen Strange is officially coming back for Doctor Strange 2 in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Phase 4. Avengers: Endgame marked the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we’ve come to know it and gave closure to the arcs of some of the original Avengers while also making way for new stories for the rest of the heroes. With Spider-Man: Far From Home marking the end of the MCU’s Phase 3, there’s plenty of room for other heroes to step up....

Bethesda announced major changes coming to Fallout 76 during the company’s E3 2019 conference, and despite that game’s horrific launch and near-irrelevance since then, it actually sounds like there will be compelling reasons to give it another shot once the Wastelanders expansion rolls out. Fallout 76’s release was plagued by a mixture of technical issues and player expectations being let down, with the latter the most difficult to recover from after fans of Bethesda’s Fallout franchise felt its latest iteration seemed to shuck all the best parts away, leaving a bare bones experience with none of the hallmarks of a great Bethesda title....
