Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson is among thousands who have lost their homes to this week’s California wildfires. As rescue workers struggle to contain fires throughout the state, other celebrities like Alyssa Milano, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, and Guillermo del Toro announced that they are fleeing their Los Angeles area homes. At least nine people have reportedly died. Derrickson came aboard Doctor Strange after working on such films as Sinister and The Day the Earth Stood Still....

The Big Bang Theory’s popular “Soft Kitty” song was hit with a copyright lawsuit since the series never obtained permission to use it. Introduced by Sheldon (Jim Parsons) in the sitcom, he claimed that it’s a children’s song that his mother usually sang to him when he was ill. Fresh off the critical and box office success of his sci-fi drama Arrival, Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is all set to turn heads yet again with the upcoming Blade Runner 2049 - a continuation of the classic Blade Runner film directed by Ridley Scott, way back in 1982. Following the announcement of the equel’s official title - and several pieces of concept art being revealed for the sequel - Villeneuve has been fairly forthcoming, regarding the direction that the film will take in order to set itself apart from Scott’s sci-fi classic....

Universal Pictures is delaying production on Bride of Frankenstein, but stars Angelina Jolie and Javier Bardem are expected to remain attached to the project - at least for now. Director Bill Condon just announced that the film was set to go before cameras beginning on February 1st, 2018 but it now seems unlikely that the project will be ready to roll by then. Bride of Frankenstein was officially announced in May, with Condon set to direct from a script by veteran writer David Koepp....

John Cena only appears for a few seconds in the Bumblebee trailer but fans are already speculating that his presence could be more than meets the eye: could Cena’s character end up linking together the planned Hasbro shared universe? Bumblebee is a prequel to Michael Bay’s five Transformers films. Directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) and set in 1987, twenty years before the benevolent yellow Autobot meets Shia LaBeouf’s Sam Witwicky, Bumblebee tells a similar tale of the robot in disguise meeting a teenage girl named Charlie Watson, played by Academy Award-nominee Hailee Steinfeld....

Fans are excited about the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, where the MCU versions of both Spider-Man and Black Panther will make their debut. The live-action remake of Disney’s The Sword in the Stone has reportedly been given a production start date. Continuing in the tradition of such box-office smashes as Maleficent and Beauty and the Beast, the studio hopes to transform another one of its beloved animated movies into a modern success, and this one is on track to become a flagship title for its upcoming streaming service. The original The Sword in the Stone was released in 1963 and was notable for being the final Disney animated film to be released before Walt Disney’s death....

Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Mulan will reportedly not be a musical like the original, but it doesn’t have to be one to succeed. The Walt Disney Company recently dropped the first trailer for their new take on Mulan over the weekend. New Zealand director Niki Caro of Whale Rider fame helms what will be the 16th live-action remake the studio has released, and expectations are high. The 1998 film was the 7th highest grossing movie of its year, and 2020’s Mulan reportedly has the highest budget of any of Disney’s live-action remakes....

Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther hasn’t opened in theaters just yet, but that hasn’t stopped the writer/director from revealing a deleted scene involving Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia that didn’t make the final cut. Once again sticking Chadwick Boseman in a vibranium suit after 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, the 18th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is all anyone can talk about at the moment. Pitting T’Challa against enemies like Erik Killmonger and Ulysses Klaue, the film also introduces Marvel comic book favorites like Shuri and M’Baku....

Cary Elwes has joined the cast of Blumhouse’s Black Christmas remake in a mystery role. Blumhouse revealed just last week that it would be doing a remake of the 1974 cult horror classic. The original Black Christmas was directed by Bob Clark, who, funnily enough, would later go on to direct a far more wholesome festive film in the shape of 1983’s A Christmas Story. Set on a college campus just before Christmas break, Black Christmas focuses on a group of college girls - including Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder - stalked by a deranged killer who taunts them with menacing phone calls....
