Walt Disney Pictures Animation has shelved plans to make Gigantic, an update of the time-honored Jack and the Beanstalk tale. Without question, Disney has been the gold standard in animation since the release of its first full-length feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. Dominating the hand-drawn animation genre for decades after that, the studio quickly adapted to computer animation following the groundbreaking debut of Pixar’s Toy Story in 1994, a film that Disney distributed at the time and company it became permanent partners with after it purchased the animation studio in 2006....

Black Panther’s success can’t be explained by any one thing. Making movies that resonate with both critics and the public requires plenty of intricate design and thinking. Every character has to work and serve the story, and each one has to feel real and developed. Although much of the praise is deservedly going to Michael B. The newest romantic-comedy, Crazy Rich Asians, scores the genre’s biggest box office opening weekend in years. Adapted from the novel of the same name, the film rode a wave of positive buzz into theaters, as it earned several enthusiastic reviews. Not only did critics find its story heartwarming and charming, but many saw it as a major step forward for onscreen representation. Hence, there was much excitement over its release this weekend....

UPDATE: With Bautista clearly interested, we cast the rest of the Gears of War movie! Dave Bautista is pursuing the lead role of Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War movie. The so-called video game curse has resulted in some lacking entries into the genre, but it hasn’t stopped studios from trying to succeed. There’s plenty of future adaptations in the works, including one for The Coalition and Epic Games’ big screen take on Gears of War....

Deadpool 2 director David Leitch revealed that he provided facial capture for the computer-generated Juggernaut in the film. This news comes from a featurette on the upcoming home release, “Deadpool’s Lips Are Sealed: Secrets And Easter Eggs.” Juggernaut appears in Deadpool 2 as a secondary villain who leads young Russell Collins (who will grow up to be the mutant hero Firefist) toward a life of crime and mayhem. The closing credits only say that the oversized character was played by “Himself....

Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already underway, but Doctor Strange is looking to be the most visually ambitious film Marvel has made. The use of magic by not only Doctor Strange, but also the Ancient One, Baron Mordo, and Kaecilius should provide viewers with the chance to see an entirely new side of what can be accomplished in a Marvel film. As the film nears its theatrical release, the studio is pushing the hype machine into full gear....

Will Arnett’s eponymous equine actor has gone AWOL in the first BoJack Horseman season 4 trailer. Season 3 of the Netflix animated show left off with a powerful image; a dejected BoJack drove away from everything, and contemplated suicide, only to stop and stare as a herd of horses ran majestically across the planes. Few animated sitcoms can muster the emotional complexity that this ending conveyed. That brilliant closing scene was perfectly in step with the excellence that preceded it....

The CHIPS Act, which would provide more than $50 billion in subsidies for US chip production, is vital if TSMC’s Arizona plant is to proceed on schedule, says the company. Thanks to Aja’s confident direction and Kaya Scodelario’s warrior performance, Crawl makes for a terse and otherwise exhilarating viewing experience. After trying his hand at relatively high-art thrillers like Horns and The 9th Life of Louis Drax, director Alexandre Aja is back to doing what he does best - lean, bloody, stylish B-movie fare - with Crawl. An original survival horror-thriller in the vein of The Shallows (only with alligators and violent weather rather than a hungry Great white shark), the film plays to Aja’s strengths in creating white-knuckle tension and offers a much more stripped-down thrill ride compared to other releases this summer....

Although Fury in Darksiders 3 was meant to defeat the Seven Deadly Sins, the final boss takes something of a sudden and dramatic turn. This final fight can be an extremely difficult one, with it taking every inch of Fury’s skill to reach the end of Darksiders 3. Throughout the game, the Horseman of the Apocalypse was tasked with finding and defeating the Seven Deadly Sins. Some of these, such as Avarice, didn’t put up much of a fight, while the likes of Gluttony and the second battle against Wrath proved much more difficult for Fury....

A brand new poster for Deadpool 2 reminds fans that the movie comes from the same studio that killed off Wolverine, one of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes. The original Deadpool proved to be one of the biggest cinematic surprises of 2016 and a post-credits sequence confirmed that a sequel featuring Cable was already in the works. After intense casting speculation, Josh Brolin was cast in the role and Zazie Beetz joined the team as Domino, with most faces from the original movie including Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa also returning for the second installment....

When it comes to bringing beloved Marvel comics anti-hero Deadpool to the big screen, a lot can go wrong.
